Start in Robot Mode. Convert to a rolling battle platform, then convert again to an Autobot city. On the planet Cybertron, the Autobot Scamper patrols the borders of Metroplex. This Titan Class Metroplex figure comes with a Legends Class Scamper figure. Transformers figures first hit U.S. shelves in 1984. The 2014 Thrilling 30 celebration honors that legacy. As part of that celebration, the Generations line will feature the legendary characters and fan favorites who have fought the epic battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. You can re-create those battles with this large Metroplex figure. Metroplex is a living artifact of an era when Cybertron was united, and needed defenders only against hostile outsiders. It is his memory of that peaceful past that drives him to fight for the Autobots. It his is hope for the return of peace that motivates him to crush every Decepticon he can see beneath his mighty feet. Figures from Legends Class 2-packs are also compatible with Metroplex in City Mode or Vehicle Mode. (Each 2-pack sold separately.) Fire the launching missile, activate lights and sounds, and imagine you're blasting Decepticons, just like Metroplex does in the Transformers: Fall of Cybertron video game from Activision (video game rated T for Teen).Transformers and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro. 2013 Hasbro. Finally, last week i was able to order Titan class Metroplex as soon as it was available in stock and sold by amazon since i wasn't able to pre-order it and i haven't been able to find him in any local store. It arrived today i was baffle on how big the box is, it has a great artwork that one would like to mount it in the wall because it looks really nice as well it has like a texture finish that you can feel it by touching the box image giving you this sensation of Metroplex coming out of it. When i opened up the box i was so overwhelm of how big the figure is that i literally put him inside his box again lol. my kid inside of me was all jumping for joy that i was able to get this guy.XD
After i took him out of the box you need to do some assembling which is a simple thing, putting his right arm. yes the right arm is detached from the figure so it could fit inside the box. Strange but understandable since Hasbro wants to cut some corners to make the figure affordable as much as possible for the consumers to be able to purchase it since this is targeted for all audience of all ages including children. After that there is a tedious process which is putting stickers on it and there is A LOT OF STICKERS!, i haven't started to apply mine but for the looks of it may take an hour or 2 depending how good and stable your pulse is for you while applying them (never try to rush it or your gonna screw it up) so you will need to have patience with it. But even without the stickers he looks pretty cool specially in the details that this thing has. plastic quality feels really nice and not cheap like some people are saying, the reason to this is because some people are comparing metroplex with the old G1 Fortress Maximus because of weight= better plastic which this is not true since there plastic that are less heavy and far stronger, weight should never be taken into consideration because making big figures, weight is your worst enemy). He comes with a small car called scamper and he looks pretty cool, simple yet effective like those cyberverse or legend class transformers figures (i think he might be a tad bigger than legends not sure). Metroplex only come with one giant red gun and 2 small black guns, he doesn't come with a second red gun since that's only for the SDCC exclusive version or the Takara one but you will have to fork more money for it if having a second red gun is a must need. Articulation wise Metroplex has plenty of it that the only articulation that it does not have is up and down head movement and ankle articulation (but that's because of its transformations to city mode or carrier mode which there is no way it could have ankle movement), he has finger articulation but only on the base of the fingers, heck he even has eye articulation that you can make them move from side to side although its only visible when the lights and sounds of it are active. Yes, Metroplex comes with lights and sound electronics which makes some sounds and speaks some of the lines from the video game "Transformers: Fall of Cybetron" which is pretty cool and a nice touch. Now my only issue with the figure it would be his leg/knee ratchet joints, although Metroplex can hold some poses just fine there kinda weak and in one point or another it will give away since there not strong enough to hold his upper body weight, standing still and making some basic poses his fine and dandy but once you try to put him in a certain pose the issue is noticeable.
Still this is a great figure even with kinda weak leg/knee ratchet joints issue, this figure is really impressive, I'm not disappointed in the least and I'm really happy with it. if you ever get the chance to own this guy either trough amazon or from a local store for a retail price either for your kid or for you because your a fan or collector, DO IT!! BUY HIM ASAP!!. Avoid paying scalper's over price for this figure. Around $100 to $125 (depending hows the shipping and/or taxes from where you buy it from as well) is just fine, more than $150 is not worth it.
This 'Plex is much more than the original, though. Bigger, more complex, more detailed, heavier, and more badass-er. He's clearly based on the design from the Transformers: Fall/War of Cybertron videogames which is not a bad thing. It even sports a button (in front of the head) that speaks a few lines from the game. 2X AA batteries aren't included in the packaging, but that's not really a big deal. The box is rather large, but he's not packaged with any padding like most TFormers are. It doesn't contain any blister packaging, or foam like back in the 80s. He's tied to a cardboard backing with those annoying little paper twist-ties that have plagued Transformers buyers for the last few years. He's also packaged with his right arm disconnected, and tied to the inside box so he can fit in a smaller box.
As far as transforming is concerned, he's not really all that difficult. He's a triple-changer, turning from bot to city play set to vehicle mode, but there isn't really much more involved than moving an arm, or twisting his legs backwards to get into different modes. But honestly, that's not the appeal of Metroplex. His appeal is the sheer size, heft, and his ability to stand on his own. He's really more of a display piece. I don't think a kid would get much enjoyment out of him because he's so large. But for guys like myself that grew up on Transformers and loved Metroplex in the show, it's a worthy buy. As of today 8/12/13, he's priced at $124 on Amazon. I was lucky and got the pre-order before his release date so I only paid $115
If you plan on taking this guy out of the box (which you SHOULD - toys are meant to be played with AND displayed) and applying the decals - be prepared for quite a job. It took me a couple of hours to carefully place all the decals, and figure out exactly where some of them belonged. The decal instruction sheet isn't that helpful with the City/Vehicle mode decal applications.
He also includes two guns that attach to his shoulders, as well as a massive cannon that he can hold in his hands. Also included is a single tiny missile for his main (red) gun. It's easy to misplace, and I think I already did.
All in all this is a worthy buy. But don't buy this for your 8 year old kid that won't appreciate who and what Metroplex is.
